"... expressing life in a whole... "

The work of ANJA HAGEMANN is a melting pot of different cultures. After her fine arts studies in Hamburg and an internship at painter Carl Lambertz’s workshop, she went to Paris to attend the ENSBA (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris) and to Milan where she studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. She’s now working on a thesis based on the dialogue between poetry and contemporary painting. This theme is a constant source of inspiration for her art. She likes to insert short excerpts of poems in her creations because she thinks that there is a musical correspondence between texts and pictures. She aims at expressing life in a whole. In her collages, she insists on the contrasts between different textures (wallpaper, pigments, cloths, wood…) different techniques (acrylic, watercolour, chalk and pencils) and different colours. It’s an artistic search focused on emotions and their power that Anja Hagemann expresses in her very particular style.
